The Da Vinci Xi Surgical System has been released in 2014 to facilitate minimally invasive surgery. The Da Vinci Xi is the latest Da Vinci surgical system that approved for colorectal surgery. The Xi manages to address several limitations of earlier models with its novel overhead architecture, slimmer boom-mounted arms, extended instrument reach, guided targeting, and integrated auxiliary technology. The functions of this new robotic surgery system allow the implementing of a wide range of colorectal procedures from complex multi quadrant colectomies to mesorectal dissections in the pelvis.

How Da Vinci Xi Works?

From the above image, you could see a tower it will be positioned directly over the patient. That tower contains robots four arms where three of them can hold a multitude of a different surgical instrument and fourth that hols systems 3D cameras. These four arms are controlled by a computer that replicates the movements of the surgeons who are operating. The console is the place where surgeons sit and operate the robot’s control by looking into a stereoscopic monitor which provides a magnified and high definition 3D view of the surgical site. The surgeon controls the robot’s four arms maneuvering two master controls that provide fingertip precision of movement.
A Touchpads found allows the surgeon to easily adjust the video, audio and system settings, while the ergonomic console helps the alignment of these controls. The monitor in the console is designed to keep the surgeon in a relaxed, focused position at all times. Additional video screens will be there linked with the rest of the surgical team by providing a 2D view of what the surgeon is looking at through the Da Vinci’s stereoptic monitor.
